Artsy fartsy
Music Now: buzz of morning
Mood Now: exhilirated!
I had a great opportunity to volunteer and assist in a teen drawing class last night. It was an experiment to see if the instructor could use me to support her teaching plan and also help with one of the more challenged students. Success! The instructor and I had great chemistry considering we'd just met, and we were able to play off each other to the benefit of the students. cool eh? It was so successful for everyone that I now have a standing Monday evening date.

And it was a good thing she was teaching something I'm very familiar with so that I was actually helpful to the ladies & gents in the class: one point perspective

One point perspective is what we experience when we look down a hallway or a busy street, take in a room, or look at a landscape that disappears into the distance. Like above, the architectural line for everything disappears into one point, often referred to as the "vanishing point". From that point radiates lines ("octogonals") that can guide us in drawing what we truly SEE (not what we think we see) in correct proportions. This mathematical method was created in the 13th century (or 14th depending on the source literature).

Here's some examples of one point perspective:

Stupid Morning Brain
Music Now: Pink's Stupid Girls when I'm not listening to Heather Blush
It's tired and cold and I'm alone in a blue cube. I wore flipflops today and my feet are regretting my choice. It's chilling my whole body, and not in a "chillin'" way. My plant is doing well in these conditions, but I am not. (Plant can be seen here on the right, sitting on the top of my cube. Not the human, the PLANT).

Last week I took many (as in 8+) videos of The Bird singing and doing his new "Hi Baby!" voice. One of the videos is of him escaping the camera before I convinced him that it was not in fact a birdie death ray that has come to steal his fruity pebbles. With great pride, I want to show everyone my horribly lame hobby of videoing The Pet's new vocal tricks, so I uploaded one of them this morning as we were running out the door to work.

I suck. Here is the bird, avoiding the camera rather than the groovy pretty singing. It's an 8 MB file because I haven't gotten a .mov editor yet. Just humour me please.

Jason is an "athlete"
I almost forgot to inform you, our doting peeps, that Jason's rec dodgeball team won the Calgary Sports Club Dodgeball Tournament this past weekend. They've got "mad dodgeball skillz" so they'll be e-dodgeball (23k image)moving up to "Intermediate League" next year. I would like to add emphasis to the skillz by using the image at left indicating a flaming dodgeball. It's flaming because it's going so fast. Really really fast.

Yes, you read that right. Not only are they now league champs, they also won a tournament. They can really dodge, duck, dive, and dodge. Way to go, Spastic Sphincters (yes, you also read that right).

Let's pretend we don't exist
Music Now: Of Montreal
Mood Now: Giddy
My brain melted over two hours ago. It's another case of too many projects but not enough for me specifically to do RIGHT NOW. I'm sure they'll all need me at exactly the same time on Thursday at 4pm since I've marked Friday as a day off. They will be snarky and pissed that I dare take a day off when they finally (in some cases after several weeks of incommunicado) get their act together and have something for me to work with.

Poor QA Girl. (I'm sure you're playing the teeniest violin to accompany my whining about my preparatory whining).

Instead, I was reading documentation about other products but then parts of my sanity actually started to seep out of my ear a li'l bit, so I switched to listening to music that had pretty colors. Here's a favorite so far called Wraith pinned by the mist, song by "Of Montreal", anim by Kangaroo Alliance. I normally hate songs that have titles that don't match the music - I thought the song was called Let's Pretend We Don't Exist, which would make more sense. Anywho, I like this one.

Morning People Suck
Music Now: Launchcast Canada - Indie
Mood Now: exhausted!
Jason started a new job this week. We (yes, WE) now have to leave the house by 7:30 AM in order for him to get to work on time.

It's been 4 mornings of this, and I'm already fed up. Who can THINK at 8am, much less be effective? Good lord... These chipper morning people can kiss my grits!

TGIF... I need a nap...

Super Fun Happy Joy!
Music Now: Launchcast Canada
Mood Now: springy happy joy joy fun happy joy
We leave for Athens in less than 5 weeks. Sweet jesus on a hockey stick! hehe

In other travelling news, we just got back from Vancouver on Saturday after spending a week in LotusLand. It was a fantastic drive both ways for the most part... the mountains are just so beautiful.

Driving highlight for this trip: Me hanging out of the car window screaming "DAMN YOU TO HELL, WOODLAND CREATURES!".

I don't normally hate wildlife. In fact, I try to be respecful of the critters we share the earth with (except for slugs but that's a WHOLE other story). On the so many times we've driven through the mountains, I've never photographed any of the wildlife that we see. Sometimes they're frolicking in a field, scrambling up a rock face, or hanging out on the side of the highway but no matter where they are, I've never captured them. Figuratively or photographically. We oooh and ahhh, but no photos. This time, we were leaving in the morning, and would have daylight and great weather for the entire trip and so I had the camera ready, ready to take their shiny photo. On this homecoming trip, we saw a record number of deer, elk, a moose, an assortment of birds, and my absolute favorite was a group of mountain sheep. As each would come into view, I was again reminded that my camera has an instant shutoff feature after 2 minutes, meaning that EVERY TIME I finally saw a lovely woodland creature (identifiable by hearts, butterlfies and flowers floating around them), the camera was OFF. By the time the camera was back on and ready, said woodland creatures would be gone.

Jason was laughing so hard at one point, that he actually stopped the car so I could attempt to get the damned camera on and take a photo of some deer (or to regain his breath - really, I don't think it was THAT funny but he was weeping at the humour of my stupid camera luck). There was much swearing on my part, he threatened to leave me on the side of the road, and in the end, the photo is very blurry and kinda off center and was taken LESS THAN 60 km FROM CALGARY.

Damn those woodland creatures.
